The new Construction Technologies Center at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Waco marks a transformative shift in higher education career and technical training infrastructure. Designed by PBK Architects and constructed by Rogers-O'Brien Construction, the $72 million, 120,000-square-foot facility brings five essential building trade disciplines—electrical, HVAC, plumbing, solar energy, and building construction crafts—together into an integrated instructional hub.

PBK engineered the complex to serve as a functional learning instrument itself, employing a design philosophy where the building's architecture directly reinforces the trade curriculum. Expansive high-bay workshop volumes provide vertical clearance and crane accessibility for full-scale building mockups, while clerestory glazing floods active workspaces with balanced, glare-free daylight. Throughout the facility’s public concourses and instructional corridors, structural steel framing, exposed mechanical ductwork, and primary electrical distribution lines remain visible to students as working educational demonstrations.

Visual documentation captures the bold exterior envelope—defined by rhythmic charcoal and deep blue standing-seam metal panels paired against expansive glass curtain walls. The photography highlights how intentional architectural transitions between heavy industrial training spaces, active student gathering zones, and transparent campus vistas deliver a modern civic presence for technical education in Texas.
